For our October Wine Evening, we visit the Iberian Peninsula, travelling to north-central Portugal, to the renowned wine-making region of Dão.
Quinta do Ribeiro Santo is the headquarters and winemaking base of Magnum Vinhos (Magnum Wines), founded in 2011 by Carlos Lucas. A man of the land, a modern farmer, he has a career of more than 25 years in wines.
Magnum Wines extends to the Alentejo, Verdes and Douro, but the core and ideology is strongest in the Dão. Born in Coimbra, Carlos has always been connected to Dão.
The 6 hectare Quinta do Ribeiro Santo in Carregal do Sal was acquired by Carlos' father in 1995 and the vineyard replanted. The first wine with the Quinta do Ribeiro Santo brand was launched in 2000. Ribeiro Santo specialise in wines made from native Portuguese grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cao, Encruzado, Sercial and Malvasia Fina.
Carlos Lucas' team is made up of highly qualified professionals who mix experience and youth, united in the same commitment and dedication to the their wines.
