Argentinian and Uruguayan wine tasting.

Our first tasting of the autumn will concentrate on wines from two  South American wine heavyweights.

Argentina
has a well-established reputation for its viniculture, particularly its dark and fruity Malbecs, though it also produces quality wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Torrontés and Pinot Noir grapes.

Uruguay
is perhaps less well known than Argentina but is increasingly well renowned for full-bodied high tannin wines from its signature Tannat grape - the country's 'national grape'. It also produces great Albariños, Merlots and Cabs Sauvignon and Franc.

Our spotlight will focus on

CADUS
Cadus is a perfectly formed winery near Tupungato, in the shadow of the Andes Mountains, within the Uco Valley in Argentina. This high altitude region has quickly built a reputation as the home of premium Mendozan wines and the Cadus range is no exception.

The soil profiles and compositions within the Uco Valley vary within short distances, allowing for different grape varieties and resulting in wines styles with unique characteristics. With vineyards in the best sites in the Valley (namely Gualtallary, Vista Flores and Agrelo in Lujan de Cuyo).

Cadus wines are classic in style but with a very modern twist thanks to the vision of winemaker Santiago Mayorga (Young Winemaker of the Year 2017) who is quickly forging a reputation for bright, lifted expressions of Mendozan wine.

PISANO
Located on the Rio de la Plate in Uruguay, Pisano belongs to a group of small family vignerons with an artisan tradition of making wines that reflect the character of the land and the people who make them.

Family hands cultivate the grapes, taking away excess crops in productive years, taking leaves away to expose the bunches to sun for better maturation and skin colour. Small quantities of each variety are allowed to wait the perfect maturation.
