AWSTRALIA | AUSTRALIA

Australia has a generally warm and dry climate which is good for growing grapes. The most popular grape is Shiraz (the Australian name for Syrah), accounting for approximately 30% of all production. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are also popular varieties. Almost all Australian wine bottles have screwcaps, rather than corks.

Approximately half of all Australian wine comes from South Australia. New South Wales and Western Australia account for most of the rest.

Barossa Valley in South Australia is known for for Shiraz and Riesling; Margaret River in Western Australia for Chardonnay and Bordeaux blends and Victoria for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
