HUNGARY

Vines were brought to Hungary by the Romans. In later periods,  new grape varieties arrived from Italy and France.

Hungary is best know for the dessert wine Tokaji Aszu and the blended red wine Bulls' Blood of Eger (Egri Bikaver). Bulls' Blood was supposedly named after a secret ingredient that made the defenders brave in the seige of Eger in the Ottoman Wars. The popular Furmint grape variety was introduced in the late 1800s.

The Hungarian word for wine is 'Bor', a Persian word.
