PENDERYN

In the 1990s, a group of friends chatted in a pub about the possibility of setting up the first whisky distillery in Wales for over a century.

Today, in the village of Penderyn in the Brecon Beacons, a uniques copper single-pot still uses local fresh spring water to produce a 92% proof spirit that is the start of the journey to Penderyn’s world renowned whiskies. These whiskies have won over 70 Double Gold, Gold or Masters Awards. In 2021, Penderyn opened a new distillery in Llandudno on the North Wales coast.

The single copper pot still allows an extremely clean flavourful spirit to be produced. The whisky spirit is aged in charred oak barrels to build complexity, flavour and depth. Penderyn mainly use two types of cask: finest hand-selected bourbon  barrels for the initial maturation and Portuguese Madeira barriques to finish. Other barrels may be used for different whiskies such as Scottish peated casks for their peated whisky.

The distillery now produces a range of award-winning products (including whisky, gin, vodka and Merlyn - a delicious cream liqueur), which is distributed world-wide.
