TAIR GAFR WINES

Tair Gafr Wines crates of grapes      Tair Gafr Wines vineyard with alpaca

Tair Gafr Wines are a small vineyard in South Wales with the dream of producing quality Welsh wines, while preserving the biodiversity and the nature in and around their vineyard.

Situated in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan in a hamlet called Treguff, they found an idyllic south facing field with a gentle relief - the perfect site for a vineyard. Fast forward three years and the ground has been subsoiled, ploughed and harrowed, 3000 vines been placed into the ground with precision GPS accuracy along with a network of shiny galvanised trellis to support the young vines as they grow.

The name Tair Gafr (three goats) is from a well-known Welsh folk song which is about goats of different colours, a red one, a white one and a pink one - just like the colours of the wines!

Sustainability is at the heart of everything they do at Tair Gafr Wines - they want our vineyard to be still healthy and flourishing 100 years from now and believe this is only possible if there is a symbiosis between the management of the vineyard and the nature surrounding it. Tair Gafr are organically certified with The Soil Association and do not use any chemical pesticides or fertilisers and make all their own sprays from the nettles, willow and horsetail that grow around the vineyard. The effects of their philosophy are evident across the whole site, a myriad of native wild flowers can be seen everywhere and the air is alive with insects and pollinators.
