Penderyn have released their eleventh Icons of Wales Edition whisky, celebrating the Welsh who emigrated to Argentina in the 19th Century.
Penderyn Patagonia is Penderyn Distillery's finest blended whisky in collaboration with Al Alanza from Patagonia. The Icons of Wales are special bottlings, each one celbrating a person, milestone or event from Wales.
28th July 1865: 153 people embark on the Mimosa, sailing for Patagonia to establish a Welsh colony and preserve their language and culture. Expecting the green valleys of home, they found a desert. Times were difficult, but miners dug irrigation trenches and the settlers traded with the local Tehuelche people.
Today Patagonia has 50,000 Welsh descendants, 5000 Welsh speakers and holds annual Eisteddfodau.
